County Regulated Open Burning Closed

Other Burning Options
There are other sections of the Montana Code Annotated that allow other agencies to authorize burning during the winter months. The most prevalent utilized by private land owners is the Montana DEQ’s Winter Burning program. Based on air quality, DEQ can authorize individuals to conduct winter burning after they have also activated a Gallatin County DEQ Winter Burning permit (this notifies local agencies that you are burning). Learn about DEQ Winter Burning at https://deq.mt.gov/air/Programs/burning.
The DEQ also allows large government land management agencies to burn as Major Burners. Companies or individuals conducting a logging operation can also conduct burning under their Hazard Reduction Agreement with DNRC.
