Realtime Wildfire Information
Curious where you can graphically see real time wildfire information? The National Interagency Fire Center has a great online tool called National Fire Situational Awareness. This online tool is basically the same system used by fire managers around the county, just with less information. The map interface allows you to visually see fire locations along with a lot of net features like fire perimeters (in some cases), Satellite Fire Detections (i.e. heat on the surface of earth) and many more selectable features. Of course you can also click on a fire and get current data about the fire.
So, if you are curious about something local or big that you saw on the news, take a look. You may not see local county level fires, especially when they first start.
